American Fluoroseal Corporation (Afc) was incorporated in 1986. Afc is a closely-help Maryland corporation with administrative offices and manufacturing co-located in leased facilitates at 431 East Diamond Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD, 20877.

Afc’s primary products are FEP1 bags for cell culture and cryopreservation. The product line comprises three trademarks: VueLife™ Cryopreservation Bags, KryoSure™ Cryopreservation Bags and Cryopreservation Pouches, and KryoVue™ Overwarps. Additional products include tubing sets and accessories such as bar sealers, incubator cassettes, and centrifuge cassettes.

Afc pioneered the design of FEP bags and remains the standard for inert containers. Afc bags are used for cell culture; organ and cellular cryopreservation; tissue banking; biotechnology; clinical trials; aerospace; biological and chemical processing; and shipping and storage. Afc offers both standard and custom shapes and sizes of bags and tubing for different types of research. Afc FEP bags are offered in sterile, non-sterile, adherent, and non-adherent versions.

Afc’s clients include medical, clinical, and biological researchers who use Afc bags for human cell culture prior to autologous transplant, for stem cell research, and for vaccine development. Afc bags are used in tissue banking for tissue collection and cryogenic preservation. Pathology clients use DNA-free Afc bags for forensic research. Afc overwraps are used for holding and protecting cord blood and tissues while in liquid nitrogen.

Afc’s primary markets are research institutions, biotechnology companies, and aerospace (particularly NASA and NASA support contractors). The market is expanding because of growth in the market base and Afc’s development of new products within existing product lines. For example, Afc is well positioned to capitalize on the growing cancer vaccine market.

Afc currently employees 11 persons. Herb Cullis has been president of Afc since 1997, and under his leadership the company has grown and has operated in the black for the past several years. Afc products are sold through internet exposure and familiarity with the company. Both Afc as a company and Herb Cullis as an individual are highly respected in the research community and in the marketplace.
